A Record Of Mortal's Journey To Immortality
Wang Yu's Chinese Xianxia novel, A Record of a Mortal's Journey to Immortality (凡人修仙传), was serialised on Qidian.
Qinghe was a small, nondescript village located in the middle of the rough Jiang Hu terrain, where the rivers flowed like liquid silver and the mountains kissed the sky. Han Li was a young man who lived an unremarkable existence, much like the earth under his feet. He worked in the fields, his clothes ragged and his hair dishevelled, dreaming of a grandeur that seemed unattainable. He had no idea that fate had different intentions for him.
Han Li discovered a little cult known as the Celestial Harmonisers one fateful day as he was gathering firewood in the middle of the jungle. A weird energy vibrated from the ceremony being performed by their mysterious leader, who was dressed in flowing robes. An aura of power filled the air, making it feel seductive. Han Li, intrigued, raced his heart as he observed from the shadows. The cultists turned to face him as he tripped over a twig, their eyes penetrating as though they could see right into his soul.
The leader, Master Qi, a woman, found potential in Han Li instead of discarding him. With a powerful yet soothing voice, she said, "You seem lost, young man." "Are you able to come along? It is not only the gifted that follow the path of cultivation. Sometimes the most accomplished people are the ordinary ones."
Han Li nodded, a mix of delight and terror. With little weight behind it, the moniker "Unofficial Disciple of the Celestial Harmonisers" gave him hope and set off his mission. But the road ahead was not without its difficulties. His mediocre cultivation ability caused some of the more gifted pupils to make fun of him. However, Han Li had an unbreakable will and would not give up.
Resources were limited and the group was tiny. Han Li dedicated many hours to studying old books and engaging in meditation exercises; she frequently found comfort in the stillness of the mountains. He discovered how to use the elements and the natural forces around him in ways that even the most talented people found difficult to comprehend. Every day was a struggle, not just with his limitations but also with other people's doubts.
As he developed his skills, Han Li found that his capacity for strategic thought was far more powerful than his physical prowess. He studied the relationships of his fellow disciples, noting their strengths and flaws. Despite his cultivation blossoming slowly, this sharp perception helped him to create relationships with individuals who respected his drive. Mei Ling, a gifted healer who was one of his closest friends, taught him the nuances of therapeutic herbs. They created a connection between them that went beyond simple friendship.
But as word spread of an impending danger—the Celestial Harmonisers having drawn the wrath of a formidable celestial entity known as the Heavenly Judge—the sect's tranquilly was upended. This creature, a defender of the universe's order, considered the cult to be a curse on the field of study. Despite their benign nature, the sect's actions were seen as a threat to the status quo, and the Heavenly Judge worked to eradicate them.
The disciples' hearts were filled with fear. A direct encounter would only result in their destruction, but Han Li, ever the strategist, knew that many would flee as others readied themselves for war. Rather, he put up a bold scheme: they were to locate an old artefact that was said to be able to protect them from the wrath of God. Few people dared to enter the perilous Cursed Caverns, where this artefact, the Starstone, was rumoured to be kept.
Mei Ling was among the few devoted pupils Han Li set out on a treacherous expedition with. There were several traps and terrifying monsters in the tunnels, each one more terrifying than the previous. But Han Li's cunning was evident; he came up with complex plans to avoid the threats, frequently depending on the abilities of his allies. They encountered difficulties as they dug deeper, trying their resolve, but Han Li's unflinching resolution encouraged them to keep going.
Han Li trained harder every day, not only to improve himself but also to defend the people he had grown to love. He discovered that even the most ordinary beginnings may lead to greatness, and as he stood on the brink of a new day, he understood that the road to immortality was not a lonely one, but rather a shared journey interwoven with the stories of many.
And so the story of Han Li, the common mortal who dared to dream, went on; it was a tale of camaraderie, resiliency, and the unwavering pursuit of a destiny fashioned in the context of a dangerous and magical world.
